Barndiva Wedding

We are excited to see one of our summer weddings on Inspired By This.
Alex and Cathy were so much fun to work with. Each time we met with
them they were beaming with love for each other. They wanted to
share their excitement by creating an evening that was welcoming,
warm and festive for all of their friends and family.

Cathy wanted to have a bright, cheery color palette and teddy bear
sunflowers were one of her favorites. A combination of hydrangea,
queen anne's lace, billy balls, dusty miller, succulents, and sunflowers
were styled in an assortment of bottles, vases and distressed metal
buckets. The deep yellow of the sunflowers contrasted beautifully
with the teal runners. The light turqouise pinstripe napkins
accented with a billy ball were a playful detail that added a layer of
depth to the tablescape. The escort card display was created
using vintage shutters in shades of turquoise.

When we discovered those shutters we knew they would be perfect.
They had just the enough of a distressed finish and they were the
perfect colors!!!

The setting for the wedding was beautiful. A canopy of cafe lights
created a romantic glow overhead and the warm, summer evening
made for the perfect ambiance. An outdoor wine country wedding
is always a favorite!!!

Wallflowers

There are so many ways to incorporate flowers into our lives. The beauties above
definitely don't seem like the typical "wallflowers" to me, but rather an incredibly
fun, bold way to add some color and playfulness to your home.

Happy Halloween!!!

The spooky kids' table at last weekends wedding. This was a collaborative effort and it was o fun to see it all come together at the installation.  The client provided all kinds of goodies and decor, Atelier Joya brought the tall candelabra and black vintage vessels to hold the ghoulish treats, and Alison Events brought a sequined linen and some serious styling ways...and voila a kids' table that all the adults wanted to be sitting at too.

Inspiration from the Masters

Henri Fantin Latour was a French realist painter and lithographer who worked and lived in the mid to late 1800s.

Floral inspiration comes from everywhere. Many designers working today look at trends and traditions in historical periods of floral design from structured to natural and in between. Paintings can also be a good source of inspiration and depiction of how flowers were arranged and displayed. Here are two of our favorite painters who focused on florals at some point in their career...

Cy Twombly is known for his large scale abstract paintings. Repetitive mark making builds up the surface and imagery within the painting. Twombly took these incredible photos which he referenced in his peony paintings and other floral studies.

Wild and Romantic

Walked into the studio this morning and Priska had made the most beautiful arrangements for today's mock up. Deep pinks, raspberries, plums wth pops of red and peaches struggled to break free of their grey wooden boxes. Jasmine vines meandered along bright red berries and deep purple scabiosa. Love, love, love this wild and romantic look and it will be perfect for a late summer gathering!

Hanging Gardens

After this week's post on indoor/outdoor spaces, this is a little extension with a bit more intention. We love the idea of these hanging or suspended plants. Individual arrangements or single botanicals create a garden that is both dramatic and simply stated. We love that many of these interpretations are inverted!
Creating an upside down herb garden is perfect for adding some greenery to your kitchen without cluttering your precious counter space; we love these pots by Rockett St George

Check out String Gardens for some really inspiring and amazing creations including suspended florals, orchids, and even tress.

For an added pop of color, these neon string moss balls  by mister moss are low maintenance and unexpected.

Creating your own hanging garden can be as simple as potting some indoor plants into well chosen handmade vessels like the one here. We also love the look of these vintage lab beakers that could be mixed with various bud vases and other hanging glass vessels for a wild and loose collection of plants.

indoors. outdoors.

outdoor brick courtyard, courtyard view, verdant bathroom unknown, atrium, basket swing, outdoor shower, windowsill garden

Some of us live in small spaces and extending our living quarters into the outdoors can be a welcome change, especially in the summer months. For those of us who don't have access to green space, bringing a little nature indoors can also help liven a home... here are some of our favorite spaces that blend indoors and outdoors with a little bit of imagination and a lot of grace...

Sweet 16

We recently did a Sweet 16 that was a black light, club-esque affair. Its seldom that we get a chance to design anything with so much freedom, color and graphics. In fact, I think this was our first event ever without floras! Check out the inspiration to creation below...

Photographer Erik Umphrey did an awesome job capturing the mood amongst the glowing purple and blacks created by reFraction lighting. DJ Dojah created the perfect thumping bass of a nightclub while guests clad in all white bounced with the beat. Shannon Leahy kept it cool while checking guests of the list and marking them as VIPs with our custom designed glowing bracelets!

Packaging!

We love to give a gift that's as special as the recipient. For us gift giving is a part of storytelling, a way to say thank you or we've selected something especially for you, its a way to show appreciating or to cheer someone up. One of our favorite parts of the gift giving process is the packaging... a great gift starts when a beautifully packaged object is placed in the hands of the one it is meant for. Here are some of our favorite ideas for creating a beautifully packaged gift.

love the eco friendly and sophisticated look of these fabric wraps from Chewing the Cud

love the clean and simple packaging from thinkgarnish.com
