Mason Jars

We love using alternative vessels for arrangements and decor and Mason Jars are one of our favorites.
They look great on a refresher table with a colorful straw or name tag, with a bunch of wildflowers for an outdoor lunch, as a votive holder or hanging light fixture, or lining a gravel path for a little extra twilight sparkle. Check out your local thrift store or flea market to find antique varieties. They come in blues and aquas, large and small, with or without embossed text or pattern... and they look great grouped together on a kitchen table with a few fresh cuts from the garden!

Aqua

Sometimes its simply a color that inspires. For us right now its... aqua
sea glass, oxidized copper, blue-green, robin's egg, or whatever you like to call it...
it's calling our name.

Repurposing Maps

We love to find unique ways to reuse and repurpose materials. Sometimes this can be purely functional, but we prefer it to be pretty too, a part of the design aesthetic or theme for a project. One of our current favorites is vintage maps. We love using them for a travel themed event, or as a small detail that adds a graphic element or vintage touch...

old maps are great for making cards and envelopes!

...remember our teaparty post? How cute would it be to host a travel themed tea party with map buntings hanging from the treetops???

love the idea of using a map from the city where the couple was married or honeymooned as a photo mat or backing, thanks Martha!

One of our freelancers, Courtney, is going to be making paper flowers from maps for a wedding this fall. Check out the progress in an upcoming post!

Rainy Day Wedding

What happens when you've spent your whole life dreaming of your wedding, a year planning it, and then the big day comes and it... rains...

This weekend we had a lovely bride who had a rainy day wedding, which turned out wet, but still beautiful! Sometimes, you just have to prepare for the unexpected, hope for the best, and above all have fun! If it does rain on your big day, here are some ideas we love...

Rent vintage umbrellas for your wedding party or guests...

bring a pair of wellies for the bride, and make it a photo opp... so cute!

Succulents

Succulents are one of our favorite floral elements. They are a great way to add hearty geometric shapes to a centerpiece or arrangement. They come in such a variety of colors and look great paired with almost any florals. Whether the look is delicate and feminine, bright or bold, they add dimension and texture unlike any other botanical. Here are some of our favorite ways to use succulents...

We love to use vintage silver goblets, compote dishes, milk glass vessels and other thrifted finds to create collections of succulents for a centerpiece, mantel arrangement, escort card arrangement or other vignette.

We love this succulent table runner! So earthy and luscious and a wonderful way to bring color and texture to a table top without obscuring your guests view...

Love the juxtaposition of the succulent shapes with feminine wisps of feathers and delicate blush roses.

Vertical gardens are all the rage in home DIY. Check out Sunset's how to, or our favorite local nursery, Flora Grubb for great tips, supplies and inspiration!
